Needs Statement

This training will help to improve access to evidence-based care for patients identifying as members of the LGBTQ+ community. In particular, provide continued medical education accredited training for a chosen cohort of primary care physicians and APPs for an in-depth review on the care of patients who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Examine implicit biases present in healthcare encounters
  • Break down methods of inclusive communication and charting techniques using gender neutral language
  • Evaluate elements of trauma informed care into everyday encounters
  • Identify the common challenges in verbal communication for providers with LBGTQ+ patients and how to recover when things go wrong

TARGET AUDIENCE

Primary Care Physicians, Internal Medicine Physicians, Advanced Practice Provider and Other Healthcare Professionals.

EDUCATIONAL METHODS

Lecture, case study, and longitudinal case-based learning.

ACTIVITY EVALUATION

Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias.
