Needs Statement
This training will help to improve access to evidence-based care for patients identifying as members of the LGBTQ+ community. In particular, provide continued medical education accredited training for a chosen cohort of primary care physicians and APPs for an in-depth review on the care of patients who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Recognize the influence of an inclusive environment in improving the health status and care delivery for patients from the LGBTQ+ community and beyond.
- Acknowledge and mitigate the disparities (fueled by implicit bias, stigma, and discrimination) experienced by patients from the LGBTQ+ community
- Demonstrate evidence-based medicine in strategies to provide whole-person care, including cancer screening, sexual health, mental health, and physical health for patients from the LGBTQ+ community.
- Engage in opportunities for clinical teams to collaborate and learn about the health concerns and experiences of those in the LGBTQ+ community.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Primary Care Physicians, Internal Medicine Physicians, Advanced Practice Provider and Other Healthcare Professionals.
EDUCATIONAL METHODS
Lecture, case study, and longitudinal case-based learning.
ACTIVITY EVALUATION
Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 5.50 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program.
