Precision Medicine Initiative: Mild Hypercalcemia and Screening for Primary Hyperparathyroidism - Part 1: Introduction - Overall Project Description
Needs Statement
The purpose of this educational and system intervention is to increase screening rates for hypercalcemia. We will start by examining adult patients who have a calcium > 10.5mg/dL (corrected for serum albumin). This talk reviews a novel system model for integrating education and decision support into this screening workflow and the tools that clinicians can study to assess their performance overtime.
Learning Objectives
As the conclusion of the activity, the participant will be able to:
Learners will be able to describe the model for integrating education and decision support into the clinical workflow for an initiative to increase screening of patients with mild hypercalcemia to determine if primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is responsible.
Learners will be able to access and use the clinical decision support and point-of-care CME in the clinical workflow for patients who meet criteria for screening for PHPT.
Learners will be able to determine if rates of screening are improving by accessing the clinician dashboards.
Target Audience
Physicians, Nurses Fellows, Residents, and Other Healthcare Professionals
