Needs Statement

Physicians, fellows, residents, medical students, and other healthcare professionals need to receive regular updates on practice guidelines, the latest scientific advances, and translational efforts in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The series aims to increase the knowledge and skills of the learners in select topic areas to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and management of obstetric and gynecologic disorders. The series will also address unique ethical challenges in the field.

Learning Objectives

Tensile Properties of Sutures after Exposure to Warmed Amniotic Fluid: Implications for Fetal Surgery
At the conclusion of the activity, the participants should be able to:
  • Review properties of available sutures used in obstetrics and gynecology.
  • Discuss results of a low-fidelity simulation of suture response to the intrauterine environment
  • Describe the next steps in evaluation of optimal suture choice in fetal surgery.
Challenges and Strategies in the Molecular Assessment of Twins
At the conclusion of the activity, the participants should be able to:
  • Review current and future indications for fetal intervention.
  • Recognize the limitations in research models for complicated twin gestations.
  • Discuss new data in the molecular biology of selective fetal growth restriction.
