Needs Statement

i2b2 stands for Informatics for Integrating Biology & the Bedside (i2b2) Cohort Discovery System. Baylor College of Medicine has implemented i2b2 web-based application for BCM Faculty, Staff and Trainees. This allows users to explore for potential research study cohorts with the clinical data acquired from BCM's electronical health record systems (Epic). The purpose of this activity is to increase efficiency and effectiveness of utilizing i2b2 to improve the overall experience of initiating research topic of interest and analyzing data.

Target Audience

This activity is for Baylor College of Medicine Clinical Investigators including (but not limited to): Faculty (PI, MD and PhD), Trainees (Fellows, Residents, Medical Students) and staff (Research Coordinators).

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the conference, participants should be able to:

  • Utilize i2b2 systems and database to generate predictive, prescriptive data and research cohorts.

  • Improve core datasets with derived and additional data to gain insight.

  • Identify strategies from i2b2 workshops and i2b2 Self-Service Data Analytics Tool to refine searches, examine trends, drill down to line-level details quickly to find related records.

The FDA has stated that it is the responsibility of the individual physician to determine the FDA status of each drug or device that he/she wishes to use in clinical practice and to use the products in compliance with the applicable law.

Baylor College of Medicine requires that all contributors disclose an unlabeled use or investigational use (not yet approved for any purpose) of pharmaceutical and medical device products, and provide adequate scientific and clinical justification for such use. Disclosure Policy
Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. BCM is committed to sponsoring CME activities that are scientifically based, accurate, current, and objectively presented.

In  accordance  with  the  ACCME  Standards for  Commercial Support, BCM has  implemented a mechanism requiring everyone in a position to control the content of an educational activity (i.e., directors, planning committee members, faculty) to disclose any relevant financial relationships with commercial interests (drug/device companies) and manage/resolve any conflicts of interest prior to the activity.  Individuals must disclose to participants the existence or non-existence of financial relationships at the time of the activity or within 24 months prior.
