Target Audience and Needs

Anesthesiology faculty and residents need regular updates on the most up-to-date anesthesiology methods and treatment. In the face of information overload in our current era of medical knowledge and research, patient management practices can be based upon knowledge which may not always include current evidence-based scientific information. This series is designated to identify and bridge participant professional practice gaps between continuing their traditional pattern of practice with utilizing recent advances in pharmaceuticals, equipment, protocols, and methods established through critically reviewing current literature and published evidence-based standards. The series also serves to validate and refresh knowledge of current practices that continue to be optimal.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures and case presentations.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Compare advances in anesthetic technology, pharmaceuticals, and equipment to traditional practice.
  • Critically review medical literature as a source for evidence-based practice.
  • Discuss how new methods and protocols in the field of anesthesiology can be applied to develop quality improvements in practice.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
