Target Audience and Needs
Nursing home medical directors, attending physicians, and nursing staff need training, technical assistance, and mentorship to deliver high-quality, best-practice healthcare to their nursing home patients. The aim of the ECHO program is to provide focused training and establish optimal healthcare practices that protect patients, nursing home staff, and visitors from coronavirus infection and spread.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, and expert opinion.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Apply measures to prevent COVID-19 from entering nursing homes via staff, visitors, and residents.
- Prevent greater spread of the virus among patients, staff, and visitors if the virus enters the nursing home.
- Provide best-practice care and treatment for residents who test positive for COVID-19.
- Implement best-practice safety measures to protect staff from COVID-19 infection, build self-confidence in their work and personal safety, and support staff retention.
- Ensure that residents who are dying from COVID-19 can safely receive visitors.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
