Needs Statement

Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) offers access to Epic's SlicerDicer, a powerful Self-Service Data Analytics Tool designed to explore clinical, access, research, and revenue data. However, there's a significant gap between clinical terminology and technical jargon within the tool, hindering efficient data analysis. To address this, there's a pressing need to enhance data literacy skills among BCM users. By standardizing clinical data requests and bridging terminology gaps, users can optimize SlicerDicer's capabilities, improving research efficiency and data analysis effectiveness for better patient outcomes. Furthermore, BCM users may seek to utilize i2b2, Informatics for Integrating Biology & the Bedside Cohort Discovery System, to retrieve data from Epic Caboodle Database, accessible outside of Epic. It's important to note that i2b2 is utilized specifically for exploring de-identified data for potential study cohorts, further enhancing research initiatives. This initiative aims to cultivate a culture of data literacy and proficiency among BCM users, advancing research outcomes and bolstering patient care initiatives.
