Needs Statement
Participants need structured opportunities to systematically review neonatal patient cases, identify diagnostic, treatment, and management errors that may have led to adverse outcomes, and practice self-reflection to recognize cognitive errors and learning opportunities. Education should focus on strategies to prevent future errors, including the adoption of new guidelines and improvement plans, while fostering practice-based learning, professionalism, and effective interpersonal and communication skills. This approach promotes continuous quality improvement, enhances team collaboration, and ensures the delivery of safe, evidence-based neonatal care.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include lectures and case presentations.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Discuss the role of histopathology autopsy findings in analyzing a patient’s clinical course and outcome.
- Summarize the rationale for case selection and analyze potential causes of adverse outcomes and complications.
- Identify the contribution of systems-based and cognitive errors to adverse events and formulate actionable improvement plans.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
