Needs Statement

Hospitalists manage a wide spectrum of complex medical conditions, requiring ongoing education to stay updated with the latest evidence-based practices. Enhancing the knowledge, competence, and performance of healthcare professionals in hospital medicine is critical to improving patient care and health system outcomes. This activity is designed to address the challenges of diagnosing and managing common acute medical conditions, promote the adoption of new developments, and mitigate patient safety risks through evidence-based initiatives. Additionally, fostering professionalism, communication, and teamwork is essential to improving clinical efficiency, reducing errors, and supporting effective, ethical patient care.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for general internists, including hospitalists (both academic and community), nocturnists, primary care clinicians, advanced practice professionals (NPs and PAs), and medical trainees.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the conference, participants should be able to:

  • Apply evidence-based strategies in the management of fluid, electrolyte, and other metabolic abnormalities.
  • Identify ECG subtleties that change clinical management of hospitalized patients.
  • Summarize key updates in ordering and acting upon labs in the inpatient setting.
  • Recognize the educational value of reviewing cases with both common and rare diagnoses.

Educational Methods

Lecture, Panel Discussion, Case Study, and Small Group Breakout Session. 

Activity Evaluation

Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias.
