Conflicts of Interest
This two-part video series addresses ethical issues related to conflicts of interest with patients in healthcare settings and conflicts of interest arising from relationships with industry. These videos encourage participants to think about the numerous ways possible conflicts of interest can arise and how physicians’ ethical responsibilities influence best practices and recommendations regarding how these situations should be managed.
Needs Statement
The Ethics, Professionalism, and Policy Program (EP3) is the ethics education curriculum created by the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy. The goal of the EP3 program is to educate the medical community about biomedical ethics. The EP3 topics are issues most medical providers encounter regularly but many feel unequipped to handle. The EP3 program’s goal is to provide easily digestible and actionable recommendations and resources about these complicated topics.

This CME/CE activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, residents, fellows, and community providers.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
Describe conflicts of interest for physicians and how they can impact patient care.
Identify some of the negative and positive consequences of working with industry.
Delineate strategies to identify if relationships with industry are conflicts of interest.
Recognize how physician/patient relationships should be managed to avoid conflicts of interest.

BCM does not view the existence of financial relationships with commercial interests as implying bias or decreasing the value of a presentation. It is up to participants to determine whether the relationships influence the activity faculty with regard to exposition or conclusions. If at any time during this activity you feel that there has been commercial/promotional bias, notify the Activity Director or Activity Coordinator. Please answer the questions about balance and objectivity in the activity evaluation candidly.
