What Is Driving Progress in Global Cancer Control? A Surgical Perspective

Needs Statement

Surgeons, advanced practice providers, fellows, residents, and medical students in various surgical specialties and subspecialties need to receive regular updates on advances in surgical care and clinical practices. Novel technologies and procedures will be examined as means to improve the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions requiring surgical intervention. The series aims to expand the knowledge of learners, enhance surgical skills, increase surgical efficiency, disseminate surgical best practices, and improve surgical outcomes.

Target Audience

Physicians, medical students, fellows, and residents.

Learning Objectives

 
At the conclusion of the activity, the participants should be able to:
  • Recognize the impact public health programs have on cancer treatment and surgery to help improve outcomes.
  • Evaluate operational approaches to implement relevant programs and policies at the hospital and national levels.
  • Identify current and emerging strategies for research and innovation in cancer treatment and surgery, including improved access to clinical trials, workforce optimization, and health service and translational research.
  • Review the cancer control initiatives spearheaded by the World Health Organization and identified best practices for collaborating with leading academic centers toward country-specific impact.
