Updates in Diagnosis and Management of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Needs Statement

Physicians and advanced practice providers in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and other medical specialties need to receive regular updates on clinical best practices. Newly published, clinically relevant, evidence-based, peer-reviewed research articles will be used as an impetus for discussion. The series aims is to accelerate the practice of evidence-based medicine across the physician enterprise to expand clinical knowledge, enhance the quality of care, and improve patient outcomes. The series also aims to disseminate disease-specific clinical best practices and to encourage networking and collaboration within and across medical specialties.

Physicians, fellows, residents, and other healthcare providers.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the activity, the participants should be able to:

  • Integrate treatment strategies and options for patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) or metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH).
  • Incorporate screening for social determinants of health into patient assessments.
  • Recognize when patients with MASLD or MASH should be referred for specialty care.
  • Identify methods for assessing patients at risk for MASH, emphasizing non-invasive tests and their role in clinical care.
  • Recognize the importance of reviewing and discussing new clinical evidence in the context of improving care delivery and patient outcomes.
