TXCH APP Symposium

April 27, 2022

NEEDS STATEMENT

The annual APP symposium for Nurse Practitioners and Physician's Assistants within the TCH Cancer & Hematology center will participate in a day dedicated to mental health and well-being for both the patient’s and families we serve as well as the healthcare providers. This activity will provide a review and discussion of the psychosocial resources available to us within our institutional as well as the benefits of providing opportunities for mental health support while undergoing specialty-care treatment.
Additionally, this educational activity will also serve as a way to teach through practice three simple options of ways to perform self-care to the healthcare providers. Caregiver burden and healthcare provider burnout are well-documented experiences. All too often we neglect ourselves in order to care for our patients, but we know we are better providers when we care for our own personal wellness.

Target Audience

Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Describe two alternative treatment options to assist in stress-reduction
  • Identify Texas Children’s Hospital psychological resources for patients and families
  • List the benefits of self-care and mental health care of patients
