Theory and Conceptual Frameworks in Health Professions Education Research

Needs Statement

Faculty require hands-on training in research methodologies commonly used in medical and health professions education. There is a need for practical guidance on selecting appropriate journals, determining the best article type for submission, and crafting introductions that situate studies within the broader literature. The literature also emphasizes the importance of experiential learning, mentorship, protected time for research, and institutional support as critical elements for building research capacity. Faculty benefit from exposure to diverse research paradigms, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed method approaches, and from learning how to apply standards of rigor in their own scholarly work. This series aims to teach faculty how to approach educational work in a scholarly way, contributing to a more systematic development of educational innovations and ultimately dissemination of outcomes in scholarly outlets.
