Program Director Professional Development Workshop
NEEDS STATEMENT
Many program directors enter their roles with strong clinical and educational backgrounds but often lack formal training and confidence in key areas of graduate medical education (GME) administration. These areas include accreditation compliance, competency-based assessment, data management, program evaluation, and effective navigation of institutional systems. As a result, program directors may encounter challenges in compliance, leadership, and oversight of residency and fellowship programs, which can hinder their ability to fulfill ACGME requirements and drive continuous program improvement.
The Program Director Professional Development Workshop delivers targeted training in administrative and accreditation responsibilities. Presentations cover the structure of GME at Baylor, program director roles, recruitment, evaluation processes, and essential tools. Key topics include annual program evaluation, Clinical Competency Committees, leave and remediation policies, and Clinical Learning Environment Reviews (CLER). Sessions equip participants with a clear understanding of institutional resources, compliance expectations, and best practices for resident assessment and program improvement. By combining expert instruction, practical tools, and real-world applications, the workshop builds competence and confidence among program directors, enabling them to better support faculty, mentor residents, align with institutional goals, and fulfill ACGME accreditation standards. In doing so, it strengthens the overall quality and accountability of graduate medical education.
