Physician and Advanced Practice Provider Well-being: Stressors and Solutions

Needs Statement

Physicians and advanced practice providers in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and other medical specialties need to receive regular updates on clinical best practices. Newly published, clinically relevant, evidence-based, peer-reviewed research articles will be used as an impetus for discussion. The series aims to accelerate the practice of evidence-based medicine across the physician enterprise to expand clinical knowledge, enhance the quality of care, and improve patient outcomes. The series also aims to disseminate disease-specific clinical best practices and to encourage networking and collaboration within and across medical specialties.

Target Audience

Physicians, fellows, residents, and other healthcare providers.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

  • Identify and differentiate the differences between peer coaching and mentoring.

  • Describe how and why peer coaching works for physicians and advanced practice providers.

  • Integrate strategies to identify the symptoms of burnout and describe how the Maslach Burnout Scale can aid in determining appropriate interventions.
