Multidisciplinary Care of the Congenital Urology Patient

Needs Statement

Physicians, fellows, residents, medical students, and other healthcare professionals need to receive regular updates on practice guidelines, the latest scientific advances, and translational efforts in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The series aims to increase the knowledge and skills of the learners in select topic areas to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and management of obstetric and gynecologic disorders. The series will also address unique ethical challenges in the field.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

  • Identify the sexual and reproductive needs of spina bifida patients as they transition to adulthood.
  • Discuss peripartum considerations including UTI and bowel management.
  • Describe the role of a urologist during the delivery of a pregnant spina bifida patient as well as key considerations for patients with prior GU reconstruction.
  • Identify long term pelvic floor conditions that are common to spina bifida patients.
