Overview

Needs Statement

Physicians, fellows, residents, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other healthcare professionals need to receive regular updates on professional guidelines, advances in basic science and clinical research, and emerging treatment modalities and management strategies for patients with endocrine disorders. The series will explore new models of multidisciplinary care in the field, especially as it relates to patients with cardiometabolic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. The series aims to expand the knowledge of learners, promote adherence to evidence-based guidelines, enhance the quality of endocrinology care, disseminate best clinical practices, and improve patient outcomes.

Physicians, medical students, fellows, residents, nurses, and other health professionals.

Learning Objectives

Evaluating Current Practices of Insulin Orders in Diabetes Patients Admitted to the Vascular Surgery Team at MEDVAMC
At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:
  • Describe key aspects of an effective order set for inpatient insulin management.
  • Identify risks associated with hyperglycemia in surgical patients.
  • List two tools used in analyzing targets for quality improvement.
  • Recite the key aspects of a SMART aim.
Clinical Outcomes of Thyroid Cancer Patients Enrolled in a Comprehensive Thyroid Cancer Survivorship Program
At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:
  • Assess the risk of thyroid cancer recurrence in patients following at the thyroid cancer survivorship clinic.
  • Review the components of a cancer survivorship program.
  • Evaluate the financial impact, and cost effectiveness of thyroid cancer survivorship model versus active cancer care in clinical practice.
