Educational Development Retreat: Active Learning and Gamification: A Fresh Approach to Medical Education
NEEDS STATEMENT
Faculty are always trying to find new ways to teach to maximize learner engagement. As many classrooms move into more active learning, there is a need to shift the teaching focus to be more active. Institutions need to provide and offer faculty resources to help classroom teachings be more interactive. This activity will review the important of active learning and discuss ways to incorporate gamification into medical education.
Target Audience
This activity is for faculty and residents at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Implement active teaching methods to engage their learners
- Explain the importance of active teaching
- Adapt active teaching methods and interact with learners
