Needs Statement

General, plastic, thoracic, vascular, cardiothoracic, abdominal transplantation and surgical oncology physicians, residents, fellows and medical students need to be regularly updated on novel therapies, as well as advances in surgical care and clinical practices that will aid them in treating a variety of surgical procedures to increase the patient care experience and improve practice efficiency.

Learning Objectives

"Angles and Dangles: Lessons Learned in the United States Navy Nuclear Pipeline"

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

  • List the steps to nuclear certification in the United States Navy.

  • Recognize the importance of culture in naval reactor safety.

  • Discuss lessons learned from the nuclear pipeline to those in medicine.

"The Value of Failure: Lessons Learned in Surgery Residency"

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

  • Discuss how failure is not an option in surgery residency.

  • Recognize that not all failures are created equal.

  • Summarize how failure is not straightforward.
