Needs Statement

Hospitalists care for a broad range of highly complex medical conditions. It is challenging to maintain awareness of the latest evidence in such a diverse array of medical conditions. Updating practicing physicians and other health professionals in the diagnosis and management of common conditions in patients requiring hospitalization for acute medical conditions is essential to providing quality care leading to improved patient outcomes. This activity is designed to increase knowledge, improve competence, and enhance performance of the participants practicing hospital medicine to advance patient care and (health system) outcomes.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for general internists, including hospitalists (both academic and community), nocturnists, primary care clinicians, advanced practice professionals (NPs and PAs), and medical trainees.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the conference, participants should be able to:

  • Apply evidence-based strategies in the management of heart failure, pneumonia, and anticoagulation.
  • Identify practices that have little to no underlying data to support their ongoing use.
  • Summarize techniques, technologies, and guidelines in use of imaging modalities such as CT scans and MRIs.

Educational Methods

Lecture, Panel Discussion, Case Study, and Small Group Breakout Session.

Activity Evaluation

Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias.
