Virtual Conference

October 9, 2020 - October 10, 2020

Bipolar disorder is among the most important and potentially disabling mental disorders. The last several decades have brought up major advances in the understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms involved in this condition, as well as in its management. Nevertheless, a large proportion of bipolar patients do not respond well to available treatments. This conference will explore recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of bipolar disorder, as well as the neurobiological aspects of bipolar disorder and their potential clinical implications. Interdisciplinary clinicians and scientists will offer insights from the latest research on bipolar disorder and discuss different aspects of its diagnosis and management. Attendees will gain practical and valuable knowledge to optimize the care of bipolar patients and overall mental health care in Houston and in the surrounding communities.

Target Audience

This symposium is designed for all health care professionals who work with mental health issues, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and therapists, as well as residents, fellows, medical students, and other trainees.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the challenges in the diagnosis and management of bipolar disorder and apply this knowledge in clinical practice
  • Explain the current role and indications of psychotherapeutic interventions in the treatment of bipolar disorder
  • Analyze the evidence on the neurobiological basis of bipolar disorder and its potential clinical implications
