Needs Statement
Neuromuscular medicine, a specialized branch of neurology, has experienced significant advancements over the past year, introducing new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches that directly impact both outpatient and inpatient neurological care. Since the last seminar, emerging evidence and innovations have reshaped clinical practice in areas such as inflammatory diabetic neuropathies, novel pharmacologic pipelines for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and updated treatment strategies for amyloidosis. Additionally, evolving knowledge in the diagnosis and management of sensory neuronopathies, small fiber neuropathy, and neuromuscular complications of systemic conditions like Sjögren’s syndrome necessitates ongoing education for clinicians. The introduction of new therapies for myasthenia gravis and the refined role of muscle biopsy in clinical decision-making further underscore the need for practitioners to stay current. To address these gaps, this conference will convene leading experts from prestigious institutions to provide evidence-based updates and practical guidance on these rapidly developing topics, ensuring neurologists and related specialists are equipped to deliver optimal patient care.
Target Audience
Designed for individuals interested in learning about new advances in the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders, who are primarily neurologists, physiatrists, physician assistants, nurses, neurology fellows, residents, and students.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the conference, participants should be able to:
- Identify diabetic inflammatory neuropathies and differentiate them from the rest of diabetic neuropathies.
- ·Select proper patients for muscle and nerve biopsies
- Implement new therapeutic paradigm for myasthenia gravis
- Apply new protocol for diagnosis and treatment of amyloid neuropathy
Educational Methods
