Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participants should be able to:

  • Recognize symptoms and diagnostic criteria for insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea, circadian rhythm disorders, and parasomnias.
  • Explain the impact of these disorders on mental health and overall well-being.
  • Utilize validated tools such as the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) to assess sleep disturbances.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations considering comorbid conditions and psychosocial factors.
  • Initiate and manage CBT-I as a first-line treatment for chronic insomnia.
  • Appropriately prescribe pharmacological agents when necessary, considering safety.
  • Educate patients on sleep hygiene practices and stress management strategies.
  • Develop referral pathways to sleep specialists and mental health professionals.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary discussions to optimize patient outcomes and ensure comprehensive care.
