Needs Statement
Clinicians must be prepared to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based care for thoracic tumors through effective multidisciplinary collaboration. This requires strengthening their ability to integrate input from all relevant specialties, including pathology, pulmonology, surgery, oncology, nuclear medicine, radiology, and radiation therapy, when developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans. Participants should remain current with evolving guidelines, enhance coordination and communication across disciplines, and adopt a patient-centered approach that addresses the full spectrum of treatment modalities and supportive care. This series emphasizes viewing the whole patient and incorporating insights from all disciplines to optimize outcomes.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include case presentations and panel discussion.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Formulate the proper mechanism for diagnosing lung and other types of cancer above the diaphragm as it relates to testing, imaging, and other modalities.
- Develop a singular or combination therapeutic plan for managing lung cancer, mediastinal disease, and upper gastrointestinal tumors.
- Recognize when to integrate patient care in a multidisciplinary system to avoid complications and obtain the best outcome for the patient.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
