Target Audience and Needs

Physicians, nurses, pharmacists, advanced practice providers, social workers, health administrators, basic scientists, clinical and health services researchers, healthcare administrators, and postgraduate, graduate, and other healthcare trainees benefit from expert information about the legislative and regulatory activities that shape healthcare structure and delivery. By integrating discussions of complex finance and accountability systems, medical practice policies, and social, economic, and political determinants of health, the series aims to prepare healthcare teams for effective policy engagement and advocacy to improve medical care and public health outcomes for all patients.

Educational methods will include lectures.


Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate greater understanding of key healthcare policies and how they influence the structure, financing, and delivery of health care.
  • Investigate and evaluate existing and proposed health policies.
  • Explain the effects of health policies on healthcare quality and process improvement initiatives.
  • Apply principles of resource stewardship in delivering cost-effective and ethical patient care.
  • Recognize social, economic, and political factors that affect health outcomes.
  • Implement strategies designed to support policy changes.
  • Identify ways to engage in policy advocacy, especially for underserved communities.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
