Target Audience and Needs

Faculty physicians, fellows, and other trainees in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery who are involved in patient care need to receive regular updates on current practice guidelines and recent technical advances in the surgical treatment of diseases that manifest in the thoracic cavity.  The series aims to meet the requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, review the benefits and pitfalls of cardiothoracic surgery, and identify evidence-based trends in cardiothoracic surgical treatments in the medical literature. Overall, the series aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of trainees and improve cardiothoracic surgical practice and patient outcomes.


Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures.


Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Identify current guideline recommendations in the field of cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Discuss the details of various cardiothoracic surgical techniques and procedures.
  • Review current trends in the medical literature pertaining to cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Distinguish the pitfalls of different treatment strategies in cardiothoracic surgery.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
