Target Audience and Needs

Pediatric critical care physicians, pediatric cardiologists and cardiac intensivists, cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, fellows, residents, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals involved in the critical care of children, adolescents, and young adults with cardiac diseases and disorders need to receive regular updates on advances in cardiovascular and critical care medicine.  Using complex cases as a springboard for discussion, the series will examine intricate cardiac physiology and hemodynamic profiles and the use of multimodal imaging, laboratory, and monitoring data to guide management strategies.  The series also aims to promote current best practices in pediatric cardiac critical care, to strengthen the multidisciplinary approach in managing patients with congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy, and to improve patient outcomes.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.  

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

• Identify typical and atypical presentations of congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy in pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients.
• Differentiate and assess commonly encountered physiologic profiles in children, adolescents, and young adults with congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy.
• Use multimodal imaging, laboratory, and monitoring data to guide the management of congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy.
• Apply evidence-based medical, surgical, and mechanical support management strategies to improve pediatric cardiac critical care.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
