Target Audience and Needs

Pediatric critical care physicians, neonatologists, pediatric cardiologists, fellows, residents, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of preterm and full-term neonates with congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy need to receive regular updates on evidence-based research findings and clinical best practices.  Given the often physically separate environments of the pediatric cardiology critical care and neonatology intensive care units and the complexities involved in treating neonatal congenital heart disease, the series aims to promote greater collaboration between specialists in both settings and thereby foster a multidisciplinary team approach to neonatal cardiac care.  The series also aims to promote evidence-based clinical best practices to further optimize neonatal cardiac care and to improve patient outcomes.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.  

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

• Describe typical and atypical presentations of congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy in neonates.
• Explain the interplay between neonatal physiology and congenital heart disease.
• Apply evidence-based medical and interventional strategies to the care of neonates with congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy.
• Develop collaborative and multidisciplinary best practices for the management of neonates with congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
