Target Audience
This activity is designed for neonatology faculty and fellows, pediatric residents, medical students, and neonatal advanced practice providers.
Needs Statement

Beyond knowledge and competence in patient care, those involved in leading the field in neonatal care require focused educational development, ongoing faculty development, enhanced teaching skills, and the promotion of educational scholarship. This series is designed to address the specific challenges and opportunities within neonatology, directly responding to the ACGME’s emphasis on a curriculum that encompasses a broad array of educational content and prepares residents and fellows for the multifaceted demands of the specialty. Enhancing the teaching abilities of faculty is a cornerstone of this series, in line with ACGME requirements for regular faculty development in educational and evaluation methodologies, and the educator milestones. This initiative will provide faculty with the tools and techniques necessary to deliver high-quality education, mentor, and evaluate residents and fellows effectively. Further acknowledging the ACGME’s guidance on resident and fellow involvement in teaching, the series aims to equip trainees with robust educational skills, ensuring they are well-prepared to contribute to the teaching mission of our department and to their future roles as educators in neonatology. The series also places a strong emphasis on cultivating an environment that values educational scholarship, encouraging and supporting trainees and faculty to engage in scholarly activities that advance medical education. Participants will be provided with the mentorship and resources necessary to design and conduct educational research, disseminate their findings, and present at academic conferences. This objective not only fulfills the ACGME mandate for continuous learning and improvement but also fosters a community of practice among neonatologists who are committed to advancing education and clinical excellence in their field.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, panel discussion, and audience response.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to apply evidence-based teaching strategies and feedback techniques in simulated or real clinical teaching encounters within the NICU.
  • Integrate enhanced educational practices into daily clinical care by routinely engaging in teaching, providing feedback, and mentoring trainees and interdisciplinary team members in the NICU setting.
Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
