Target Audience
This activity is designed for surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, pathologists, radiologists, nursing staff, and fellows and other trainees.
Needs Statement
Clinicians require updated knowledge of evolving evidence-based guidelines, including molecular profiling and the integration of novel therapies such as immunotherapy and targeted agents, for colorectal cancer. There is a need to improve competence in applying these guidelines to complex cases, such as determining optimal treatment sequencing and coordinating care for patients with hereditary syndromes or synchronous metastases. Performance gaps persist in implementing best practices, with challenges like fragmented communication, inconsistent documentation, and underutilization of clinical trials and genetic counseling. Through case-based discussions and collaborative decision-making, this series aims to foster consistent, patient-centered, multidisciplinary care.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include case presentations.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Describe current evidence-based guidelines and emerging therapies for the multidisciplinary management of colorectal cancer, including staging, surgical approaches, systemic treatments, and surveillance strategies.
- Integrate updated clinical guidelines and tumor-specific considerations into collaborative treatment planning during tumor board discussions, demonstrating improved clinical decision-making in complex cases of colorectal cancer.
- Implement coordinated, evidence-based, and patient-centered treatment strategies in clinical practice, resulting in improved interdisciplinary communication and consistent application of best practices in colorectal cancer care.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
