Needs Statement

To address current practice gaps, including the dissemination of updated knowledge, enhancement of provider skills, and improvement of patient care quality, providers require ongoing education that keeps them updated on the latest diagnostic, staging, and treatment guidelines for gastrointestinal tumors, with particular emphasis on advances in imaging, pathology, and molecular testing. Strengthening clinical competence in interpreting complex cases, integrating multidisciplinary perspectives, and applying evidence-based algorithms to individualize patient care is essential. Additionally, providers need to improve their ability to implement new therapies, coordinate care across specialties, and ensure adherence to best practices in both curative and palliative settings. Enhanced communication and teamwork skills are also critical for effective interdisciplinary collaboration and for optimizing patient outcomes in this rapidly advancing field.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include case presentations and literature review.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Describe current advances in the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of gastrointestinal tumors, including emerging therapies, molecular profiling, and updated clinical guidelines.
  • Analyze complex clinical scenarios to determine appropriate diagnostic workups and evidence-based treatment plans by integrating recent research findings and multidisciplinary perspectives.
  • Apply updated clinical knowledge in patient care, initiate appropriate therapies, and communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes.
  • Recognize and address supportive care needs, including symptom management, nutritional support, and psychosocial interventions, for patients with advanced gastrointestinal malignancies.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
