Target Audience and Needs

Hematologists, hematopathologists, radiation oncologists, pharmacists, advanced practice providers, fellows, residents, and medical students need to receive regular updates on advances in the management of hematological malignancies. The tumor board aims to improve patient care by applying current scientific evidence and advanced management practices, promoting biomarker testing and other strategies to augment treatment planning, and enhancing performance and communication within a multidisciplinary team. The tumor board also aims to increase the effectiveness and quality of hematologic oncologic treatment and, thereby, improve patient outcomes.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include case presentations.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the complexity of hematologic oncologic care and the need for a multi-specialty team.
  • Develop the communication skills needed for interdisciplinary cancer care.
  • Review advances in hematologic oncologic clinical care, including clinical best practices and evidence-based findings of ongoing clinical trials.
  • Formulate standards of care for patients with unusual or complex hematological malignancies.
  • Improve compliance with standards of care by accurately documenting treatment recommendations in the electronic medical record system.
