Needs Statement
The field of Cardiovascular Anesthesiology is very dynamic, with several components that continue to be studied and upon which recommendations are updated frequently. This includes preoperative assessment and risk stratification, monitoring modalities both invasive and noninvasive, pharmacologic treatment options, administration of blood products or hemostatic agents, utilization and interpretation of transesophageal echocardiography, and many other factors. With the review of particular cases that involved possible morbidity, mortality, or near misses, this activity will delve into guidelines and recommendations that the evidence suggests, the perspective of other care providers and their critique of management, and a collaborative approach to improve patient safety and quality improvement. The goal of this series is to advance medical knowledge, refine management strategies, and enhance patient care, while continuing to also foster departmental recognition and to support the development of impactful research initiatives that improve patient safety.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.
