Needs Statement
Clinicians require targeted education in underutilized areas of academic research, including robust literature review techniques, effective communication with editors, and interdisciplinary collaboration. There is a need for experiential learning opportunities that foster both explicit and tacit knowledge, moving beyond didactic instruction to include mentorship, peer discussion, and real-world research exercises. Training should emphasize the development of skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders, including patients, communities, and policymakers, navigating complex research contexts, and leading collaborative research teams. This activity aims to focus on specific areas of academic research that are less often utilized by clinicians. The presenters will hold interactive discussions on the different aspects of research including communications with editors and learning how to conduct robust literature reviews. By focusing on these educational needs, clinicians will be better equipped to formulate meaningful research questions, conduct evidence-based reviews, and implement quality improvement initiatives in their practice.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include lectures, panel discussion, and audience response.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Identify key steps in conducting research or quality improvement.
- Conduct evidence-based review of clinical research.
- Formulate a clear clinical question and advance toward collecting data and evaluating the results.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
