Target Audience
This activity is intended for pediatric critical care physicians, pediatric neurologists, fellows, and advanced practice providers.
Needs Statement
Pediatric neurocritical care providers require targeted education to bridge gaps in knowledge, skill, and practice related to the management of critically ill children with neurological conditions. There is a pressing need for structured training in the use and interpretation of advanced neuromonitoring and neuroimaging modalities, as these tools are not routinely covered in standard critical care or neurology curricula. Additionally, clinicians must be equipped to apply evidence-based guidelines consistently, despite institutional and systemic barriers that contribute to practice variability. Multidisciplinary collaboration, protocol-driven care, and implementation science strategies are essential to translating knowledge into practice. Educational interventions should therefore emphasize not only clinical competencies but also team-based approaches and sustainable quality improvement methods to enhance outcomes and reduce variability in pediatric neurocritical care delivery. Through a combination of didactics, journal clubs, skill sessions, and case discussions, this series aims to promote rapid knowledge and skills acquisition pertaining to pediatric neurocritical care fundamentals and best practices among the healthcare providers. Additionally, the series aim to decrease clinical practice variations among pediatric neurocritical care physicians, thereby enhancing quality of care for children with neurological conditions.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Apply evidence-based practices in the management of pediatric neurocritical care conditions.
  • Discuss indications, interpretations, and applications of neuromonitoring modalities in the pediatric intensive care unit.
  • Describe the pathophysiology of neurological conditions encountered in the pediatric intensive care unit.
  • Critically evaluate contemporary literature relevant to pediatric neurocritical care.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
