Target Audience
This activity is intended for physicians, advanced practice providers, sonographers, and physician trainees in the field of obstetrics and gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine.
Needs Statement
Through didactic lectures and case reviews, this series will provide learners with the latest evidence-based scanning protocols endorsed both by national societies and Ben Taub Hospital to address gaps in the quality and consistency of ultrasound imaging practices. This series will provide a platform to discuss common pathologies and their accompanying ultrasound images, image quality, and ultrasound techniques. The series will also allow time for targeted instruction by reviewing unit-wide and individual audits to identify deficiencies, provide feedback, and develop corrective measures that will lead to performance improvement. The focus will be on improving image quality to optimize anomaly detection as well as improving accuracy of biometrics and estimated fetal weight.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include lectures and case presentations.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Apply ultrasound protocols effectively by selecting and acquiring appropriate images at different stages of pregnancy, guided by clinical indications and best practices.
- Integrate current evidence-based guidelines into the evaluation process to enhance diagnostic accuracy and consistency in ultrasound assessments for both pregnant and non-pregnant patients.
- Identify and discuss abnormal fetal anatomy to improve the diagnosis of fetal anomalies.
- Interpret audit findings to identify performance gaps and implement strategies that support continuous improvement at both individual and team levels.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
