Needs Statement
To address practice gaps in the application of evidence-based, multidisciplinary care for patients with lung and esophageal cancers, clinicians require structured opportunities to engage in multidisciplinary discussions that reinforce guideline-concordant care, improve diagnostic accuracy, and support shared decision-making. This tumor board serves as a critical educational platform where specialists can collaboratively review complex cases, interpret evolving evidence, and align on best practices. There is a need for ongoing education in the application of guidelines, interpretation of molecular and imaging data, and integration of emerging therapies. The aim of the tumor board is to bring together all specialties involved in the treatment of thoracic malignancies to ensure coordinated, evidence-based decision-making.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include case presentations and panel discussion.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Explain the subtypes and staging of thoracic malignancies.
- Identify appropriate diagnostic pathways, including advanced imaging techniques, pathology, and molecular testing, to support accurate diagnosis.
- Formulate evidence-based, multimodal treatment plans in accordance with National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines and current best practices.
- Evaluate the impact of multidisciplinary collaboration on treatment planning, patient outcomes, and adherence to clinical guidelines
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
