Target Audience and Needs
PPediatric critical care physicians, neonatologists, pediatric cardiologists and cardiac intensivists, cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, community medicine physicians, fellows, residents, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals need greater understanding of the epidemiology, diagnosis, and management of congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy. Given that the numbers of children, adolescents, and young adults with certain congenital heart diseases are few, it is critical that healthcare providers are up to date regarding current best practices and evidence-based management strategies. Guided by expert faculty, the series will review cardiac anatomy and physiology, common hemodynamic profiles, and treatment interventions while aiming to promote a multidisciplinary team approach to optimizing treatment and improving patient outcomes.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, and literature review.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Describe typical and atypical presentations of congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy in children, adolescents, and young adults.
- Differentiate the hemodynamic profiles commonly found in children, adolescents, and young adults with who have congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy.
- Use multimodal imaging, laboratory tests, and monitoring data to guide the management of congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy in inpatient and community settings.
- Apply evidence-based medical, surgical, and mechanical support strategies to the care of children, adolescents, and young adults with congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
