Needs Statement
Learners in hematology-oncology and bone marrow transplantation require ongoing education that not only keeps them current with emerging research but also strengthens their ability to critically appraise the literature and apply evidence-based findings in clinical practice. Structured educational interventions, such as journal clubs, are essential for fostering critical thinking, evidence-based medicine skills, and professional competencies including communication, leadership, and teamwork. These needs are amplified by the rapid evolution of cellular therapies and the complexity of transplant-related care. This series will provide timely access to high-impact articles, promote interactive and meaningful discussions, and encourage participants to evaluate how new evidence can be integrated into patient care. Through systematic review and appraisal of recent clinical trials, the series aims to expand learners’ knowledge, improve treatment strategies for immunodeficiencies and hematologic malignancies, enhance the quality of hematology-oncology care, reduce transplant-related morbidity and mortality, and ultimately improve patient outcomes.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, and literature review.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Recognize seminal studies and the latest evidence-based findings related to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cellular therapies.
- Evaluate the validity, relevance, and clinical applicability of research using principles of evidence-based medicine.
- Apply research findings to patient care by developing strategies that integrate new knowledge into clinical workflow.
- Strengthen analytical and critical thinking skills to improve treatment approaches and patient outcomes.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
