Target Audience
This activity is designed for clinical and research faculty, graduate and medical students, clinical and postdoctoral fellows, and clinical and research nurses in pediatric hematology and oncology.
Needs Statement

There is a need for educational programming that bridges the gap between basic, translational, and clinical research in pediatric hematology and oncology. Providers, including trainees, advanced practice professionals, and faculty, must be able to interpret new research, assess the relevance of emerging therapies, and integrate evidence-based recommendations into their clinical practice. Educational activities should foster interdisciplinary learning, promote awareness of ongoing research, and encourage critical appraisal of current controversies and hot topics in the field. This seminar series is designed to keep trainees and faculty up to date on research activities both within their own specialties and in related areas across hematology and oncology. By highlighting principles and outcomes from diverse areas, the series ensures that all attendees benefit from presentations, including those with direct clinical relevance that may introduce new studies or therapies applicable to clinical practice and patient care.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Review and evaluate current clinical practices and patient outcomes for children with hematological conditions or malignancies.
  • Discuss ongoing and emerging research studies at Texas Children's Hospital aimed at improving pediatric hematology and oncology care.
  • Describe and critically appraise current controversies or “hot topics” in pediatric hematology and oncology.
  • Identify unmet research needs and formulate strategies to implement novel research studies and integrate new findings into practice.
  • Apply the latest evidence-based guidelines and research outcomes to enhance clinical and research practices in pediatric hematology and oncology.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
