Target Audience
This activity is designed for physicians, including fellows and residents; nurses; and advanced practice providers, including physician assistants and nurse practitioners, in pediatrics, obstetrics-gynecology, or neonatology.
Needs Statement

Healthcare professionals participating in the Neonatology Perinatal Center Conference need to strengthen their ability to assess and manage complex maternal-fetal conditions, including understanding their pathophysiology and long-term outcomes, and to integrate evidence-based approaches for both medical and mental health care. This includes developing proficiency in identifying and addressing perinatal mental health disorders, applying validated screening tools, and implementing effective interventions. Attendees also require updated knowledge of current research, guidelines, and global indicators for perinatal health, along with strategies to improve interdisciplinary collaboration, ensure continuity of care, and promote equitable access to high-quality services for mothers and newborns. Throughout this series, participants will discuss topics related to the clinical management of the mother, fetus, or newborn. They will be able to assess each topic, identify relevant pathophysiology, and describe appropriate management processes.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Critically evaluate and integrate current research and evidence-based practices in maternal-fetal medicine and neonatal care.
  • Identify and analyze the pathophysiology and management strategies for maternal, fetal, and newborn conditions, including ethical considerations in perinatal care.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive management plans for mothers and newborns, including counseling on risks such as elective delivery before 39 weeks and care for infants requiring NICU admission.
  • Apply effective strategies to incorporate research findings and clinical guidelines into interdisciplinary practice, ensuring optimal and equitable outcomes for mothers and newborns.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
