Target Audience and Needs

Physicians, fellows, residents, physician assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners in a pediatric or neonatology clinical setting need to receive regular updates on advances in the pathology of neonatal diseases.  The series will serve as a forum to explore the natural history of neonatal diseases, issues in diagnostic pathology, interpretation of major pathologic findings, and disease prevention strategies.  Full and imaging autopsy will be explored as means to explain neonatal death and risk to future pregnancies.  The series also aims to expand the knowledge of the learners in these topic areas, enhance the quality of neonatal care, and improve patient outcomes. 


Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures and case presentations.


Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Improve case-based medical knowledge applicable to patient care, such as abnormal anatomic structures, unusual presentations of common conditions, and typical and novel complications of treatment.
  • Analyze the systemic issues contributing to medical errors or treatment complications.
  • Contribute to the institutional quality improvement effort to reduce complications and preventable adverse events.
  • Apply expanded knowledge and skills to improve interprofessional collaborative care and patient outcomes.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
