Target Audience and Needs

Internal Medicine generalists and subspecialists, residents, fellows, medical and physician assistant students who are involved in the care of patients need to be regularly updated with the recent advances and guidelines in internal medicine and medical ethics to increase clinical knowledge and to implement them in clinical practice to enhance the quality of patient care and outcomes.


Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.


Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Summarize different treatment modalities for obstructive sleep apnea.
  • Discuss resources available at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center to assist in caring for homeless veterans.
  • Explain the interface between social media and medicine.
  • Recognize different clinical entities that may present with eschar as their manifestation and incorporate this information into routine clinical practice.
  • Identify and discuss the three phases of patient flow for a typical admission and the barriers that exist in each phase.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
