Needs Statement
Healthcare professionals need a stronger foundation in recognizing and treating common and uncommon infections. This includes the ability to interpret data and apply it to clinical decision-making. Additionally, there is a need for up-to-date knowledge of evolving treatment recommendations, especially in areas where resistance patterns are changing or where clinical data may be limited. Through interactive case discussions, this series aims to provide a platform for clinicians to discuss current treatment recommendations and equip learners with the ability to make informed choices about therapy based on diagnostic findings, patient-specific factors, and local practice considerations. Strengthening these competencies will support more effective, evidence-based care and improve patient outcomes across a range of clinical scenarios.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include case presentations, literature review, panel discussion, and audience response.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Recognize key clinical features and diagnostic indicators, including symptoms, laboratory markers, risk factors, and imaging findings, associated with a broad range of infectious diseases.
- Differentiate types of immune deficiencies and identify the infectious diseases commonly associated with each.
- Formulate a comprehensive differential diagnosis for patients presenting with infectious symptoms and select appropriate diagnostic tests based on clinical context, patient history, and current evidence.
- Apply evidence-based treatment strategies for infectious diseases, incorporating current clinical guidelines and patient-specific factors to optimize therapeutic outcomes.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
