Target Audience

Needs Statement

To address gaps in the consistent application of evidence-based, multidisciplinary approaches to the diagnosis and management of breast cancer, the Breast Tumor Board series is designed to expand knowledge of current and emerging advances in breast cancer care. This includes developments in surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, genetic testing, pathology review, and imaging. The series enhances clinical competence by equipping participants with the skills to apply this knowledge through case-based learning and collaborative, multidisciplinary discussions. It also aims to improve performance by fostering real-world changes in patient care through strengthened interdisciplinary communication and the implementation of evidence-based practices. By facilitating real-time, case-based discussions, the Breast Tumor Board supports the translation of knowledge into practice, enabling participants to implement evidence-based interventions that improve patient outcomes and care coordination.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, panel discussion, and audience response.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

• Recognize the indications for germline and somatic genetic testing and incorporate the results into breast cancer management.
• Discuss how the roles of surgery and radiation have evolved in the local management of axillary breast cancer.
• Utilize FDA-approved chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy to treat various types of breast cancer.
• Distinguish the roles of various imaging techniques in the diagnosis and monitoring of breast cancer.
• Describe the pathological characteristics of HER2-low and HER2-ultralow breast cancer.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
