Needs Statement
Despite increased awareness of health disparities among LGBTQ+ individuals, many healthcare providers continue to face gaps in training, confidence, and clinical competence when delivering affirming, evidence-based care. These challenges are rooted in limited LGBTQ+ representation in medical education, insufficient interdisciplinary collaboration, and persistent implicit bias, leading to inconsistent care and poorer health outcomes.
This educational activity addresses these gaps by equipping participants with foundational and advanced knowledge in LGBTQ+ health, along with practical strategies for culturally competent, patient-centered care. Through expert-led sessions and interactive learning, learners will explore evidence-based guidelines and inclusive practices—such as SOGI data collection and respectful communication—while examining ethical considerations and systemic inequities. The program promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and aims to strengthen clinical confidence, improve care consistency, and advance health equity for LGBTQ+ populations.
