COVID-19 Clinical Management: The Experts' Perspective

In this first presentation of a four-part series, a panel of Baylor College of Medicine-affiliated experts share current evidence and trends in the clinical management of COVID-19. Dr. Laila Woc-Colburn, M.D. discusses the typical clinical presentation of the disease. Dr. Sergio Trevino Castillo, M.D. discusses intensive care management of COVID-19 pneumonia. Dr. Hana El Sahly, M.D. discusses antiviral treatment approaches, including recent data on remdesivir. Dr. Ivan Rosas, M.D. defers his presentation until the second presentation in the series.

Target Audience

Faculty and trainees within the Department of Medicine who are involved in the care of patients need to be regularly updated with the recent advances and guidelines in the fields of internal medicine and quality improvement to increase clinical knowledge, and to implement the advances and guidelines in clinical practice to enhance the quality of patient care and outcomes.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Summarize the evidence on the role of antivirals and immunomodulators in COVID-19 management.
  • Describe the clinical presentation of mild-to-moderate COVID-19.
  • Illustrate atypical presentations of COVID-19.
  • Describe the clinical symptoms of COVID-19 as associated with pathophysiology.
  • Explain the individualized approach that COVID-19 patients require to be managed in the ICU.
