Building an Integrated Model of Care for Persons Living with Alzheimer's Disease
In this presentation, Dr. Christopher M. Callahan, Director of the Indiana University Center for Aging Research and Professor of Medicine at Indiana University – Purdue, discusses the public health perspective of Alzheimer’s disease. He emphasizes that our current public health and infrastructure models are not sufficient for the care of people living with dementia. The care of cognitively-impaired people usually falls on family caregivers, especially women, and creates an economic burden on women in particular.
Dr. Callahan invites the audience to imagine a care model that meets the current and future needs of people with dementia. He discusses what this care model would look like from a public health perspective, and the challenges of building such a care system.
